Why we love the Krispy Kremes

Share

Happy Friday, July 13, everybody!

Here’s why:

AP – Celebrating a birthday on Friday the 13th? Krispy Kreme has a special gift for you.
Anyone whose birthday is July 13 can walk into a Krispy Kreme store on Friday and walk out with a free dozen glazed doughnuts. The Winston-Salem company is offering the giveaway to celebrate the selling of its first doughnut 70 years ago.

Some form of ID with a birth date is required.

And here’s the latest invention: a Krispy Kreme ice cream sundae. The concoction is a hot doughnut piled high with soft-serve ice cream, syrup, nuts and sprinkles.

Dieting doughnut-eaters need not despair. Krispy Kreme has doubled its lower-calorie offerings. Earlier this year, the 180-calorie whole-wheat doughnut debuted. Last month, the multigrain doughnut was unveiled. So that dieters don’t feel deprived, the latter features molasses, brown sugar and pecan flavors and a crunchy oatmeal crisp topping.

Let’s all celebrate at the Krispy Kreamy!

Here is a secret chef tip that I will share, becuase I have spent many a night walking by Krispy Creme, and just picking up a pallet of those donuts they leave in the packaging next to their dumpster.

Gotta love a company that throws out 2 hour old donuts in hermetically sealed boxes!

Anyway, the next time you happen across an old box of glazed donuts, toss those bad boys into a big food processor with a little vanilla and an egg for binder, and then shape them like hambuger patties and toss them on the griddle.

Then toss some strawberries in a shallow suace pan, add about 2 cups of leftover orange juice, reduce it for about 15 minutes and drizzle it on your donut patties for poor man’s french toast that the Pope would kill a hooker for.
