Why the petition will fail

A handful of Ashvegas residents feel that they’re in a pitched battle against Ashvegas City Council over council’s recent decision to change city elections from non-partisan races to partisan races. A petition effort has been forged, and the group has until Monday, July 16 to collect 5,000 verifiable signatures to force council to put the issue to a referendum. Council voted Tuesday not to voluntarily put the issue to a referendum.

Here’s why the petition effort will fail – a friend of mine sent me this note:

hey, if you hear anyone bitching about not getting enough signatures on that petition this week, they can blame at least one girl at malaprop’s who told me the petition drive ended monday.

i said, “no, it ends monday the 16th.”

“oh. well, if it’s still here it’s down the hallway on the stack of free newspapers.”

sheesh. you’d think girlfriend would know better. but then again, it’s like you said: nobody cares.
