Twin brothers plan to open communal living space for artists called Asheville Consciousness Collective

Check this out: a couple of twin brothers who recently moved to Asheville from Michigan are going to be profiled on MTV’s True Life documentary series. The brothers – Tyler and Vinny Trierweiler – are planning to create a communal living space for artists in Asheville. They’re currently looking for a location for that space. Read on:

Twin brothers Tyler and Vinny Trierweiler caught the attention of MTV producers with their unique ideas about a shift in human consciousness. The brothers will star in an upcoming episode of MTV’s award-winning documentary series True Life, set to air on January 4, 2014. The episode documents the lives of the twins over the course of a year, as they explore controversial and sometimes taboo ideas about the nature of reality.

Although the episode was filmed in Kalamazoo, MI, the twins have since moved to Asheville to pursue their latest idea; a residential community for artists based on conscious living. Deeming their brainchild the Asheville Consciousness Collective, Tyler are Vinny say their goal is to create a communal living space for artists, dedicated to provoking awareness to higher consciousness through creative expression. Residents will be comprised of artists from the fields of music, recording, performance, painting, photography, videography and writing.

The Trierweiler brothers are currently seeking a physical location for the collective, with hopes that the episode airing in January may aid in their search. Plans for the space include a meditation room, studio space, gallery, and video production room. An innovative video blog will serve as a way for members of the collective to reach out to the local community.

Tyler and Vinny aim to open the doors of the collective by February 1, 2014. Individuals interested in helping bring the project to fruition or becoming a member can visit the organization’s website at AshevilleCollective.com.

Here’s a little more background on the Trierweilers. The two operated a coffee shop in Grand Rapids, Mich., called The Dirty Hippie. The shop did what the twins aim to do here in Asheville: bring together creative people in an interesting space. From a story posted at mlive.com:

Behind the counter, mixing hot drinks or fiddling with the shop’s stereo system, you find the co-owners, 23-year-old twins Tyler and Vinny Trierweiler, who have a passion for art and are in hot pursuit of bringing together interesting people in a creative setting.

“We’re not in it just for the money,” Tyler Trierweiler said Tuesday, the day Mayor George Heartwell came in for the store’s ribbon-cutting ceremony. “We want it to be fun. We want it to be something that’s worth doing.”

When media coverage of their venture started popping up in early September, about a month before the store’s Oct. 1 opening, reporters clung to the peculiar aspect of The Dirty Hippie: its eponymous Web-based reality series.

“The next time you go for coffee in Grand Rapids, you could end up on camera,” said the Sept. 8 story in The Grand Rapids Press.
