August’s ActionFest’s film will screen this Thursday the 15th at the Carolina Cinemas with I Declare War, about a neighborhood game that’s anything but make believe for its young participants.

The screening starts at 7:30 p.m. and $10 admission not only gets you a pint of Asheville Brewing’s Ninja Porter, popcorn, and soda, but directly benefits the local homeless advocate service Homeward Bound.

Want to go?  Just be one of the first 5 people to reply to the following question and you’ll win a pair of tickets to Thursday’s show:

Growing up, what was your favorite neighborhood game?

Please use your correct first and last name when you comment.  Tickets will be available for pick-up at The Carolina on Thursday night.

Press release:
ActionFest Film Festival is pleased to announce the fifth film of its monthly screening series.  I DECLARE WAR will return to Asheville to screen one night only at The Carolina Asheville on Thursday, August 15  at 7:30 p.m.
I DECLARE WAR stormed ActionFest last year winning both Best Film and Best Screenplay at the 2012 installment of the ActionFest Film Festival. The film will be released theatrically in the US on August 30.  Armed with nothing more than twigs, their imaginations and a simple set of rules, I DECLARE WAR follows a group of 12-year olds engaged in a lively game of Capture the Flag in the neighborhood woods as the lines between make believe and reality start dangerously blurring.
Rocks = Grenades. Trees = Control Towers. Sticks = Submachine Guns. The youthful innocence of the game gradually takes on a different tone as the quest for victory pushes the boundaries of friendship. The would be warriors get a searing glimpse of humanity’s dark side as their combat scenario takes them beyond the rules of the game and into an adventure where fantasy combat clashes with the real world.
All proceeds from this special one night screening will be donated to HOMEWARD BOUND, celebrating its 25th anniversary of providing pathways to housing for the homeless in Asheville. The suggested donation for admission is $10. Those in attendance will receive complimentary pints of beer donated by our friends at French Broad Brewery, PLUS complimentary soft drinks AND popcorn donated by Carolina Cinemas. This is truly the best entertainment value in Asheville.
The ActionFest Film Series is a monthly film series occurring on the 3 rd Thursday of each month at The Carolina Asheville — home of the ActionFest Film Festival — offering action movie fanatics an early look at action films from all over the world.
We hope all people of Action will join us for this exciting action event at The Carolina Asheville on Thursday, August 15.  Tickets are available now at the Carolina Cinemas box office, 1640 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC, or online at www.carolinacinemas.com.

Would definitely have to be playing Army in the woods. Run around shoot things with a stick, hide behind fallen trees. Make forts out of branches and such!

One favorite game was Sardine, kind of a reverse Hide and Seek. One person would hide in the neighborhood, and the others would search. If you found the person hiding, you’d stay with him/her until everyone found the hider.
