JUNE 6: Wall St. Cheat Sheet, a popular financial news website founded by two brothers and operated out of Asheville, reports today that President Obama is seriously considering living in Asheville post-presidency:
It seems all the bookmakers sending the Obamas to New York City or back to Chicago after the end of the President’s second term are wrong by a few thousand miles.
A source close to Wall St. Cheat Sheet has confirmed that the Obama family is very seriously considering the city of Asheville in North Carolina as one of their post-Presidency residences, and may even have bought a house in the hill-nestled town. A call to get an official confirmation from the White House wasn’t immediately returned.

This comes as no surprise to those who have followed
Here’s Obama talking about his love of Asheville during his last trip here in February 2013. More here of Obama loving on Asheville during his last visit. President Obama has made a total of four trips to Asheville since before he was elected president. He’s openly expressed his love of the area, and especially for 12 Bones barbecue. He and the First Lady vacationed at the Grove Park in a couple of years ago and appeared to have a good time.
Guess we’ll wait and see.

It could just be a vacation home. Hillary Clinton owns several homes.
let the war-mongering murderous treasonous Fascist POS puppet move to a gun-free zone in Chicago where he will feel nice and safe.
barring that, how about sharing a nice, cozy one-room, window-less basement apartment on an island in the san francisco bay with george, dick and hillary?
Yes, I appreciate your delicate wording, but what’s your opinion on the matter?
Still no denial from City officials that Obama has purchased the property across from the Basilica.
Nice spot for a little mansion, right?
Also zero denial out of anyone that Obama has bought the Biltmore Square Outlet mall.
Also overheard: Obama is retiring to Asheville to open a brewery and taco stand. I am making this up, of course, but drawing attention to the continued lack of denial out of The White House and/or the administration and/or city officials and/or the Chamber of Commerce.
Geez people, the Register of Deeds is public. If you want proof/disproof, go look at the land records.
I’d heard he was going to be out in Fairview next to Gladys Knight.
This is the best Obama relocation rumor of all.
Why doesn’t he move to some place that he’s wanted.
How about Gitmo.
“Leicester! Leicester! Leicester!”
I hope it’s Biltmore Forest, just to hear the howls echoing from the Country Club to the Fresh Market.
I agree with NFB’s comment, but like the “sorry- we’re closed” comment too.
2016 is still a long way off though- any number of towns might sneak up and grab the ‘nice place to move’ label from us in the meantime.
I’m not rumor-mongering, but I did see a painting recently in a downtown store that could have easily been a GWB original.
So now its Fact!
i see! anyone have any clues as to where in Aville?
If you’ve ever lived in a city where an ex-President puts down stakes, you would know that this is terrible news. As a practical matter, the traffic disruptions continue as long as the President lives. The SS blocks off corridors before and after any trip. Huge pain.
Oh, this applies to ALL presidents.
Presidents that are no longer in office receive Secret Service protection for ten years after their term is completed now. So, it would only be ten years of federally-mandated traffic nightmares.
Actually they now get lifetime secret service protections – see HR6620 bill signed in 2012
If we can get 25,000 signatures, we can petition the administration to prevent Barry from moving here (whitehouse.gov then click on We The People). But if he does move down this way, I agree with Harry, way way out in Madison County would suit him well.
Hopefully waaaay out in Madison county.
I hear Leicester is nice.
Wherever he creates the fewest traffic and service interruptions is fine by me. Chicago would be great. Maybe they could stop shooting each other long enough to have a welcome home parade.
I live out in Madison County. I don’t think he’d settle here. Not much going on, and the good ol’ boy mentality still rules.
Let’s see, a few years ago Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were supposed to have bought a house in Biltmore Forest, (or Town Mountain, or Beaver Lake, or….) Steven Speilberg was supposed to have bought an entire floor of condos downtown. Robin Williams was also supposed to have moved here. The list goes on of celebrities said to have moved here all in the wake of Andie MacDowell doing son (and she no longer lives here.)
Honestly, Asheville fancies itself as such a sophisticated, town and yet it is obsessed with receiving any kind of affirmation and validation it can get via rumored celebrity sitings and relocations, or listings on every obscure and pointless list imaginable. It is time for us to get over ourselves.
Wasn’t there also a Saudian Arabian prince who bought a house on Town Mountain?
“It is time for us to get over ourselves.”
OK, but you go first!
I’ve noticed that quite often, when someone gets the vapors about a famous person possibly buying a house in Asheville, they’re afraid that if the famous person did actually move here, that would remove the justification for their incessant bitching about the place. As though, perhaps, the famous person’s enjoyment of Asheville invalidates the unimportant person’s deep, personal need to complain about the city.
Asheville has a strange way of becoming the scapegoat of so many people’s problems and personal failings. I wonder why that is… Don’t people usually project their insecurities or unhappiness on a spouse or child? Why do so many people here project it onto the city itself? You see it all the time on the Citizen-Times comment forums, and the situation actually used to be much worse.
I would like this post by hauntedheadnc a thousand times if I could.
You’re assuming these same people are married or have kids, though. lol
He’ll immediately take up residence in the Biltmore, the only structure large enough to contain his ego.
I’ll say the same thing I say when I’m on the road, and people say, “Asheville? I’d love to live in Asheville!!?!!”:
I’m sorry, we’re closed.
“I’m sorry, we’re closed” ?? Really? What a childish,
provincial attitude. I wonder how many of the breweries, restaurants, and places you enjoy were started by people who don’t give a shit about your”closed” opinion.
Obama could be considering The Cliffs. If he comes, admirers and celebrities will join him here bringing serious money and development to the area.
This is the funniest thing I have read in 10.8 years.
I agree the Cliffs would be the most appropriate as well as the Ramble.
I have a great house for sale 🙂
He isn’t considering mobile homes.
