Here’s the rumor going ’round on Twitter, from @revpictures:
word on the street is band of horses is playing at the lab’s ‘private event’ this saturday…anyone else know about this?
Can anyone confirm? Is the Lexington Avenue Brewery’s music venue now open? What’s it called? How can we sneak in?

Yikes, lots of animosity towards the owners! Perhaps I am biased b/c I got to go but if I owned a restaurant/bar and wanted to have a private party, I would think I’d be able to do that without getting a bunch of flack for it. Anyone of you would do the same. It’s not like they had some sort of responsibility to have it open to the public. I think its awesome that BOH is with Echo Mountain. Maybe that means they will come back and play (and often!). Maybe Thomas Wolfe next time, instead of TOP. Love them. Loved LAB too. Will definitely be hanging out there again soon.
Yall have a complex! Must stem from being picked last in gym class. Grow up! These guys put so much work into this place, and this is a way for them to thank all their family and friends. They couldnt have done it without all that extra support.
My friend and I were invited to this event…. and then uninvited.
Talk about being in poor taste. I will not be going there again. Screw them.
I know that BOH are also good friends with some members of Wayne Robbins and the Hellsayers, who having an album release party on the same night at the Grey Eagle.
Just sayin’…
Didn’t they spend some ridiculous amount of time building that place? If I spent 2 or 3 years building a business I would want to have a private party and invite only my family and friends. And if band of horses plays because they are friends of the owners, well good for them. I would have the Village People play mine, personally but whatever. I’m sure they’ll be at the orange peel sometime soon.
LAB folks can do their own thing, who would make it on the elitist list?
as a big BoH fan I’m disappointed I won’t be able to see them, so I’ll whine like the rest.
que sera. There are plenty of other good places to spend time and drink beer. Quieter, too, would be good.
Invite only? Talk about a band of horseshit.
BOH is playing at LAB Saturday night and it is a private event. Can’t wait to see them!!!
I think an argument could be made that the way they organized this event is slightly in poor taste, and this is coming from someone who’s had decent experiences each time I’ve been there.
Everyone knows the only reason the band is playing there is because of their connection with the owners, who also own Echo Mountain Recording. To completely shut out the public makes it seem like they’re openly pointing out just how much more important they are than you, which only adds to the elitist vibe someone mentioned above.
I realize it’s a private business and they can do whatever they want, but perhaps it would’ve been better, at least in appearance, to award a few lucky fans a handful of tickets, and not just the Asheville elite. Maybe have a raffle, or contest or something. Maybe they did, and the details haven’t surfaced yet.
IMO – the place continues to put out an elitist vibe ….
The venue holds 100 people and I’ve heard that Lab has sent out 175 private invites each with the option to bring a guest.
Don’t know how that math is supposed to work out…
Lab has said they are closing their doors for a private event at 3 pm that day.
It’s true, and your best bet would probably be to try and tunnel in from the Vault–it’ll be that controlled…
I heard that it’s true from one of my husband’s friends who knows them. Tempted to stand outside & listen.
They LAB is hosting an invite only party to celebrate the opening of their music "room" … I am not sure who the entertainment is for the event.
According to their Facebook page they will close at 3pm.
They also mention some of the upcoming talent they will be hosting.
Yep. Invitation only. You didn’t get one? Me neither. It’s to christen the new 99-person-capacity listening room.
