Registration now open for 2nd annual Carolina Meat Conference

The two-day December event includes a keynote address from author, speaker and livestock consultant Dr. Temple Grandin, who is known not only for her contributions to animal science, but for being one of America’s great autism advocates (she is herself autistic).

A Blind Pig dinner is also part of the event in Bermuda Run, two hours from Asheville.

Two-day General Registration is $145. The Monday Night Social with a Blind Pig dinner and keynote with Grandin is $29 with General Registration; $60 for those not attending the conference.

Dr. Grandin’s insights into animal behavior and her innovations in livestock handling have revolutionized food-animal welfare around the world.Her accomplishments as a speaker, author and advocate earned her a place among TIME magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World” in 2010, and her life story was the subject of the acclaimed 2010 HBO biopic, “Temple Grandin,” winner of seven Emmy awards and a Golden Globe.Temple Grandin is world-famous for overcoming her personal struggles with autism to lead dramatic improvements in the livestock industry. A professor at Colorado State for more than 20 years, Grandin is a celebrated speaker who lectures internationally on autism and livestock handling.

What is the Carolina Meat Institute?
NC Choices has designed a suite of educational
programs to serve the local and
niche meat supply chain.

 

1)    Butcher Apprentice Network -Curriculum and apprentice placement program integrating farm, slaughterhouse, retail and kitchen experiences to prepare potential employees and stimulate entrepreneurship in the local meat industry. Pilot for 2012.
2)    Annual Carolina Meat Conference- Statewide annual conference bringing together all the players in the local and niche meat supply chain, including farmers, processors, buyers, regulatory and marketing agencies, and Extension personnel.
3)    Regional Workshops- Workshop series held 3-4 times a year in different regions of NC, focusing on specific marketing and processing issues for farmers, processors and food professionals.
4)    In-House Business Development for commercial meat processors.
