PUBLIC MEETINGS TO DISCUSS PROPSED ENERGY LOOP LOCATION

June 12, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. & Noon

Public Works Building

Asheville, NC – The City of Asheville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department and the City of Asheville Public Art Board is holding a public meeting regarding the placement of the Energy Loop – Asheville’s first piece of public art.  The two meetings will be held June 12, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. and at noon both in the City of Asheville Public Works Building on South Charlotte Street. The meetings will include photos of the proposed location and City staff will be present to answer questions.

Created by local artist Dirk Cruiser, the Energy Loop was commissioned by Quality Forward (now Asheville Greenworks) and installed in Pack Square Park.  In 2006, the Energy Loop was removed for restoration and repair before a new location was identified.  The newly proposed location is in a new plaza adjacent to the new County parking deck on South College Street in Downtown Asheville across from the Buncombe County Courthouse.  The reinstallation will be funded with money previously raised by the City of Asheville Public Art Board.

There is also a five-question online survey regarding the Energy Loop placement available on the Asheville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department website at www.ashevillenc.gov/parks.

The energy loop is such a joke, it was at its unveiling and it is now.

I would like to propose that the best place to display the ENERGY LOOP would be at Biltmore Iron and Metal. They have an extensive collection of this type of art..

I propose that the best venue for the Energy Loop would be to showcase it in the middle of the yard at Biltmore Iron & Metal where there are many other works of Art that are similar to it.

Could you post a photo showing the proposed site? I drove by there the other day but wasn’t sure I was looking at the correct place.
