Wesley Wright, owner of the Taste and See food truck, says initial planning calls for the food truck lot to be open week days, and possibly nights on Saturdays and Sundays. It will have room for four food trucks. The lot would operate in conjunction with a new outdoor stage and beer garden the venue wants to add, according to Wright. The changes may also include a commissary, Wright added. Finally, Wright is planning to operate a second food truck, Lil Pizza My Heart, an artisan pizza food truck, on a permanent basis at New Mountain.
A new food truck lot in downtown Asheville in 2015 would follow a tough year for food trucks in the city. Wright says he counted at least nine trucks then went out of business in 2014. Asheville’s first food truck lot underwent a change in management last year, which riled some food truck operators. There’s no other downtown food truck lot operating on a regular basis, although there was talk of one on Broadway.
Wright says he’s determined to talk to Asheville City Council members at some point this year about loosening up rules for food truck operators. There are too many limitations that make it tough for operators to survive, he said.

Interesting, except for maybe an occasional Sabor! appearance, I can’t remember ever seeing any of those trucks at The Lot on Coxe, or at any Downtown After 5 or RiverMusic or other festival in town. I know that Eatbox used to to set up mornings in front of the Admiral, but where were all of these other trucks working?

Looks like the greedy-guts operators of the old lot off Coxe will now get to experience competition! Great idea. They should have left things as they were, instead of driving everyone off.

Yeah, I’d be curious about the details behind this particular statement as well. I can barely even think of more than 9 food trucks that have been working regularly in downtown Asheville, and all of the ones I could remember except for The Lowdown appear to still be in operation. Who all went out of business?
