IVORY ROAD CAFE & KITCHEN: AN INDEPENDENT CAFE & BAKERY BY INTERNATIONALLY TRAINED PASTRY CHEF
PRESS RELEASE
AUGUST, 2016
ARDEN, NC – Jill Wasilewski, a Maryland native, is opening a new cafe and bakery at 1854 Brevard Road in Arden on August 1, 2016. Jill and her team will serve breakfast, lunch, and a wide variety of homemade baked goods. They also will welcome custom cake and cupcake orders for special events.
The cafe and bakery is set in a beautiful old stone house, dating back to 1939. It has been updated and given a small addition to offer extra seating, both inside and on the spacious patio deck. The cafe has a series of rooms, each with a cozy and unique feel to them. There is also a private room that is perfect for meetings or private events for up to 12 people. Jill has been working in restaurants, both front and back of house, for the last 14 years. She earned her Baking and Pastry Arts and Business Management Bachelors Degree from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY in 2011. Since then, she has worked and lived in Washington, DC, New Orleans, Louisiana, Melbourne, Australia, Lanquin, Guatemala, and now just outside of Asheville, North Carolina.
In her new venture, Jill wants to bring approachable home-cooking to the Arden area, while sneaking in a few “new” dishes and desserts on a regular basis. Her pastry selection reflects the “all-time favorites” she has encountered during her world-wide travels. She offers southern favorites like a pimento grilled cheese sandwich and bread pudding, but spices it up with things like alfajores (a dulce de leche-filled cookie of South American origin) and corn atole (a chilled sweet corn soup, served as a beverage throughout Latin America). Jill and her team will have new side dishes, soups, and specials daily.
“The style of my new place is to be welcoming and familiar, but also to push a few boundaries and introduce some foods that people in the area might have never seen before,” says Jill.
The owner features local art on her walls, has lots of fresh flowers and plants around, and aims to keep the space open and airy and full of light. It’s a bustling little space upon first entry, as one can see directly down the length of the open cafe kitchen. However, there’s plenty of room to enjoy one’s own space as well.
Jill looks forward to becoming part of the community with the addition of her new small business.
