A movie titled Three Billboards Outside Ebbings, Missouri is being shot around Western North Carolina this spring.
The movie, which stars Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrleson and Peter Dinklage, is about a 50-year-old woman who battles local police after her daughter is murdered. It is directed by Martin McDonagh.
The three billboards of the title, photographed and submitted by loyal reader Alan, have been erected on a road near the North Fork Reservoir in eastern Buncombe County. (See them at the bottom of the post.)
The movie will also be shot in downtown Sylva starting Monday, according to the Sylva Herald and go through May 20. Here’s more:
At times, the town still plans to reroute downtown traffic to clear the way for filming. The movie’s primary scene locations in the downtown are Sassy Frass Consignment and an upstairs office of the Jackson General building, located at the corner of Spring and West Main streets.
Oscar-winner Martin McDonagh’s movie tells the story of Mildred Hayes, a woman in her early 50s, who goes to war against her local police force, believing them to be too inept to solve the murder of her daughter. The film is a dark comedy, written and directed by McDonagh. It stars Frances McDormand, who has won an Oscar, Emmy and Tony awards; Woody Harrelson, also an Emmy winner; and Peter Dinklage, an Emmy winner and star of HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”

Woody Harrelson was at The Alabama Shakes Concert on Tuesday night! He had a hoodie pulled up over his head, but it was unmistakably him!
