Sounds like fun. Press release here:

The kick off fundraising event ‘Float for a Cause’ is ready to rock Asheville’s tube-happy hearts Saturday, August 17th. An area collaboration from community citizens dedicated to serving area environmental non-profits, this community float down the beloved French Broad River will benefit local non-profit ambassadors of WNC’s natural environment Western North Carolina Alliance. The event will kick off at noon under the bridge across from the Wedge Brewery where participants will be met by a floating barge graced by local rock n’ rollers Mad Tea, fronted by Ami Worthen and Jason Krekel.

Floaters will rock out with their toes out all the way to the Bywater where they’ll be met with more music, merriment and a raffle stuffed with coveted local businesses gear including a hammock from ENO, a zipline package for two to French Broad Rafting & Ziplines as well as a rafting package for two, paddling gear from Southern Raft Supply, gift certificates and t-shirts to the Mellow Mushroom and more! Asheville’s favorite front porch will be jamming the sweet praises of environmental awareness that day from 2-6pm from local musicians Molly Kummerle of Paper Tiger, Chalwa, Plankeye Peggy, and Taylor Martin.

The float is free however a $5 suggested donation to Western North Carolina Alliance will be taken post-float at The Bywater. Donated kegs from Sweetwater Brewing Company and a special local brew collaboration from High-Wire Brewing Company & Burial Beer Company using local malts from Riverbend Malt House will be on tap that day with all proceeds going directly to the area non-profit.

We would also like to include a huge thanks to local business Mellow Mushroom for sponsoring this event!
