Big news here on the Asheville fashion front. Asheville’s community of fashion designers, models and photographers has been humming right along, but it remains a relative small group of creatives. This event may be the catalyst to help them break through.

Press release, from loyal reader Sarah:

With Asheville’s growing and thriving fashion scene, members of the fashion community have been in talks for years about bringing Fashion Week to Asheville, and the time has finally come. Asheville Fashion Week, an art and fashion event with the ultimate goal of creating buzz and giving a relevant outlet to designers and fashion enthusiasts is set to take place August 5th through 8th. Asheville Fashion Week will connect consumers with products and services that relate to fashion, beauty and luxury while showcasing incredible Asheville talent and highlighting a rich fashion community that has been thriving in Asheville in recent years.

Asheville Fashion Week is sponsored by Gage Talent, a talent agency serving Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Asheville. While Gage Talent has been serving the Asheville market for several years, the news of Asheville Fashion Week comes on the heels of the announcement that Gage Talent will also be launching an Asheville branch along with modeling classes, taught by local Asheville fashion insider, Sarah Merrell. Merrell has also been named Community Director for Asheville Fashion Week and will be working closely with members of the Asheville fashion community to put on the fashion week event.

“This is very big and exciting news for the fashion industry here in Asheville,” said Merrell. “While Asheville is well known for it’s beer, food, and art, it’s not as well known for it’s fashion. Through collaboration, networking, and events, the Asheville fashion community has seen a lot of growth, not just locally, but regionally and even nationally. Finally having an Asheville Fashion Week is a huge next step to the fashion community here receiving the publicity and awareness it deserves.”

In addition to the publicity Asheville Fashion Week will garner, Jaime Hemsley, President of Gage Talent, also believes there will be a posivite economic impact from the show and said, “We are excited to finally open an office in the welcoming community of Asheville where we have worked for over a decade. We have many local talent that are currently on our agency roster, and we have Asheville businesses as trusted clients. Highlighting the Fashion Arts is important to the local designers and economy and we are thrilled to host the week of parties and shows to celebrate their crafts.”

Asheville Fashion Week will include four nights of shows including a Kick Off Event, Emerging Model Runway and Ready to Wear Event, Fashion in Film and Emerging Deisgner Shows, and a Grand Finale event. The schedule, ticket information, and model application are all available on the Asheville Fashion Week website at www.ashevillefashionweekusa.com.
