Fire at old Dickson Elementary School near downtown Asheville

Share

Workers demolishing the old Dickson Elementary School on Hill Street apparently started a fire while cutting some steel at the site on Tuesday morning, according to an Asheville Fire Department spokeswoman. Nobody was injured in the blaze.

Gusting winds whipped the fire, which created heavy smoke at times. Interstate traffic near downtown Asheville was slowed as the smoke blew across the roadway.

Here are a few pix from the blaze.
