What are you doing NYE Friday, Asheville?

Updated Dec. 8, The Beer Guy speaks:

New Wicked Weed brewery and restaurant now set to have hard opening Dec 28. They’ll have 14 full batch brews and 4 small batch ales. This place next to the Orange Peel will be one of Asheville’s hot new beer destinations.

The new brewery moving in to the space across from the Orange Peel is still looking at a likely open date of Friday, December 21.

Not just a brewery, Wicked Weed is also a brew pub with a tasting room, and, in springtime, a Biltmore-facing patio and a beer garden.

The brewery expects to hire about 60 people, according to the Citizen-Times.

From the Citizen-Times:

The brewery is good to go. Walt Dickinson, his brother Luke and brewer Eric Leypoldt have put together a very impressive 15-barrel system. Test brewing began last week, and by opening day, they hope to have 14 beers on tap. As we’ve said before, they’ll be specializing in hoppy West Coast style brews and Belgian ales.

To get those Belgians right, they’ve even got an open fermentation tank. “It’s our toy,” said Walt Dickinson.

Last week, during a tour of Wicked Weed, I got a taste of two of the Dickinsons’ homebrews: a hoppy higher-octane ale and a mild sessions beer. Both were very tasty and showed what these guys are capable of producing.

As for the restaurant, the food will be “enlightened pub fare,” said manager Dave Herrington. He’ll be hiring around 60 people (that process is under way; send resumes to dave@wickedweedbrewing.com.)

The Wicked Weed will really have four public areas — the upstairs restaurant, the downstairs tasting room with a more limited food selection, and, when the weather warms up, a big patio facing Biltmore Avenue and a beer garden behind the tasting area.
