Sharing the truth that there are many many 30-50 yr old smart, liberal awesome sauce ashevillians in EAST Asheville that are dying a slow lack of good food nearby death over here. Are you listening local Restauranteurs? Come to East Asheville, we need you!!!! Think of every parent that drops off and picks up their child at Evergreen school or Artspace school; there is no place to get a good local breakfast lunch or dinner in east Asheville. I live in Oakley and every other house in my neighborhood are good peeps looking for good food. ok thanks for letting me have that rant. : )

Completely agree with Jessica as well. East village is fine, all the other restaurants mentioned above are fine. It’s just we haven’t seen a fever for the flavor here in east. I live in swannanoa so we are closer to black mountain than asheville. Blk mtn has some great places. Sweeten creek road? That’s not really what the point is. The lack of local food joints that are tasty (not boring bar food or repeat Mexican joints) is just not found in east.

West avl is older than east, has some cool old buildings, neighborhoods that are tight and closely spaced together. I think that is part of what east is missing. We just don’t have that Haywood road Mecca that makes it easy for restauranteers to easily come in. Tunnel road is sooooo dated.
Creekside Taphouse is the beat thing to happen to East Asheville in ages.
The fact that there’s so much “liberal awesome sauce” over there is enough of a reason for me not to open anything in that neighborhood. Liberal awesome sauce is getting old.

There’s an easy solution for Oakley… food trucks!
Nachos & Beer is an awesome Mexican restaurant in an old shiny diner, located on 74-A about 1 mile south of I-40. Great food, great prices, large portions, great family owned business. Consistently excellent.
Piazza is out that way too, quality stuff
Okay, here we go….You in Oakley!! You are minutes from Biltmore Village which has lots of great restaurants. You’ve got East Village Grill in Oteen, Ultimate Ice Cream, Pomodoros, Creekside Taphouse, Highland Brewery, the Social.. On Sweeten Creek you have 12 Bones, Farm to Fender Food truck at CinToms. You can order from Valet Gourmet or Munchies n’more to deliver. Or learn to cook. Geez, I have lived in Oakley for 5 years now and there is a lot of choices and it takes no time at all to get to Sweeten Creek, Hendo Rd, B’more Village or even downtown. Quit ya bitchin.

Your sense of distance is impeccable: now please ‘splain to the folks in Candler how they’re only minutes away from Haywood Road.
The problem with Eastville food is that it’s pretty samey with lots of bar/grille/diner-type places. But I also think it’s hard to bootstrap: Cafe Azalea had a good, distinctive menu, but people don’t expect distinctive restaurants out east.
As a fellow Oakley resident I say, “Sing it, sister!”
Katuah Market is great for local yummy food if you don’t require a sit-down experience!

I completely agree with Jessica, I live in Oakley and am constantly driving downtown to eat at a decent restaurant. Though thumbs up for Moe’s bbq!
