Here we go:
-GoBrainless.org: Former Asheville City Councilman Carl Mumpower is protesting the upcoming Go Topless rally planned for August by cranking up his own website, GoBrainless.org. The mission – to disrupt tittyfest. From his website:
How will it work?
How about a cash award for 3 photo contest categories…
1) Most degrading gotopless.org event moment for women-
2) Most degrading example of public sexual performance-
3) Most degrading example of child abuse-
(by allowing a minor to observe sexual performance or otherwise directly participate in the event)-1st Place winners in each category will receive $100. 1st Runners Up will receive a $25 gift certificate from a downtown Asheville restaurant.
All submitted pictures will be shared with the authorities, media outlets, and those who read this website.
-Vintage Moon rises: One of my favorite thrift stores, Vintage Moon, is coming back to Lexington Avenue. The shop announced in January that it was moving.
-Blue Rage: I’ve seen the name of this new shop on College Street, but I don’t know if it is a gallery or what. Anyone?
-Parking lot plus: Ever noticed the joyful reunions, the tearful goodbyes and all the other drama that goes down in local grocery store parking lots? I have, and there’s story or photo essay or something there. Still working it out.
-The baby lotto: Dodie Stephens, the senior communications manager at the Asheville Convention and Visitors Bureau, has a high-profile job getting word out about Asheville’s greatness. She’s got a big, new job coming up soon, though: Stephens recently announced via FB that she’s having twins. Congrats Dodie!
-Wicked Weed addition: The boys at Wicked Weed Brewing want to build an addition onto their building on Biltmore Avenue next to The Orange Peel. They’ll bring the issue to Asheville planning and zoning board. Wicked Weed plans to open before the end of the year.

This GoBrainless.com has Chad Nesbitt written all over it. So they want you to ignore, avoid, decry the boobie rally.. But they’re sponsoring a cash photo contest encouraging folks to go, photograph and egg on the juiciest scenes of depravity they can lay lenses on?
Yep! That’s Buncombe Counties own Chad Nesbitt. And Dr. No is the official contest and GoBrainless spokesperson?! HOW can this pair have lost elections? They’re walking, talking parodies of themselves.
I love this new material Chad and Carl! You are certainly entertaining. (Although predictable.) Keep On Clownin’!
In a presentation to the Downtown Commission on Friday morning, the designers showed their amended Wicked Weed plan to have NO addition to the building, thereby eliminating a need for a P&Z variance. They will have to go before the tree commission though.
It’s a neat looking plan and I’m sure it’ll make a nice pre-concert stop for Orange Peel music fans. It’s got a gas outdoor fire pit too.
One thing that I wonder about is are there underground gas tanks there? How will these new trees take root if they don’t dig up the whole place and get the gas tanks out? It was asked at a Downtown Commission meeting a few months ago, but the planners kind of dodged the question or didn’t seem to know.
Anyway, Wicked Weed! I like the sound of that.
There is no way I cannot win that photo contest even if I have to set it up myself …
I can’t imagine anything less interesting than Mumpower’s opinion!
The rally is pure idiocy, locally irrelevant, and nothing more than a cheap publicity stunt organized by a wacko UFO cult … I’d say GoBrainless is a pretty good take on the situation by Mumps, with whom I almost never agree.
His whole child abuse angle, on the other hand is the worst, hand-wringing-est kind of grandstanding … I don’t buy for a minute that he genuinely believes viewing a few boobs would be harmful to a child.
There are many reasons to oppose this rally. Top of my list is that it draws more attention to Carl Mumpower the single most sanctimonious blowhard alive.
what a perfect name for a website from Mummy ….
So Carl Mumpower is giving financial incentives for attendance at the topless rally? Awesome.
