Asheville’s Amazing Pubcycle looks to expand routes, entertainment offerings

Asheville’s Amazing Pubcycle – that people-powered beer bus that let’s you drink and ride – is looking to expand. The Amazing Pubcycle his the streets in August 2013 and has been a hit, as far as I can tell. The pubcycle regularly gets cheers from onlookers, and riders always appear to be having a good time. Some motorists who get stuck behind the slow-moving pubcycle might be irked, but whaddya gonna do.

Owner Shawn Verbrugghe tells me that he’s recently received approval to run a route in Asheville’s River Arts District. Right now, the pubcycle has just been riding the streets of downtown Asheville. Verbrugghe doesn’t know when he might start running a RAD route – right now, he just has the one pubcycle and he’s looking for money or investment to expand.

Verbrugghe is also in the early stages of formulating a plan for a brick-and-mortar location that might serve as a home base for Amazing Pubcycle, and give people more entertainment options, options that involve what he really loves about the pubcycle, which is a really close interaction with patrons.

Stay tuned for more.

I’d rather do my own pub walk/crawl so I can spend more than 10-15 minutes at a brewery. Might be different if you could take your drinks with you from the pub, but you can’t so it’s lame.

It is pretty annoying to navigate around that thing downtown. It’s a cute idea and it’s great that people want to do it, but it’s a nuisance in an already crowded area. I’d like to see more thought put in to the route if this thing is going to stick around.

The pub cycle is what’s wrong with where Asheville is heading. Don’t spoil the river district with this obnoxious tourist attraction. In fact, send it away altogether.

The RAD is for artists and not for beer idiots who missed the turnoff for myrtle beach.

I have a great idea move the pubcycle to the Biltmore property with the other yahoos.

I spotted the Pubcycle in Raleigh last week. They call it a Trolley Pub there.
