‘Judge, jury and executioner’
WLOSer Cherub Charu scored an interview with the father of the man Ashvegas police shot last week in the parking lot of the Cracker Barrell off Smoky Park Highway. The man died Monday.
The cops said they started following the guy because he had outstanding drug charges. As the cops converged, they say the suspect, Lacy Pickens III, used his car to try and run one officer down. Police opened up on him.
The father of the dead man claims police acted with inappropriate force. The father said the cops shot his son six times, including once in the back of the head. The dad said his son was not armed. The dad alleges that the cops shot his son after he was out of the car and on the ground. “This was no self-defense shooting. This was a murder shooting,” the dad said, adding that the police acted as “judge, jury and executioner.”
Court dates
The guy with the pipe bombs in his Fletcher home had his first court appearance on Monday, as did the guy charged with attempting to rape a woman in her Candler apartment. Meantime, police are still looking for the guy who raped a woman as she was headed to work at the YMCA in Biltmore Park.
Working girls still working
Michelle Boudin brought us a sexy story about “working girls” plying their trade on Hilliard and Grove streets in downtown Ashvegas. Boudin said Ashvegas cops have cracked down on the whores and johns with undercover operations. So far, they’ve charged seven prostitutes and five johns with soliciting and dick sucking and general “crimes against nature,” or whatever it’s called.
Boudin said things have gotten worse ever since the Interstate Motel “was knocked down.” Hey Boudin, the No Tell Motel was never “knocked down” – it’s condos, babe. And frankly, we miss the flea bag flop house. There’s nothing like heading down Lexington Ave. for your Sunday morning paper and seeing a streetwalking slut in a sequined dress and smeared mascara walking out of the place…
In other news…
Blue Ridge Paper employees have a new contract. They’re getting a raise, apparently… Lord’s Drug Store, an independent pharmacy and fixture in north Ashvegas for decades, is closing for good. Just can’t compete… If you live in Ashvegas, your water bill is going up by $3.50 a month (or, as Boudin explained, “that’s about $7 if your bill comes once every two months). The rate increase, to pay to fix our crappy water pipes and make improvements to our water treatment plant, went into effect on July 1… There’s lots of school construction happening in Buncombe County – some 57 projects totaling $36 million, according to Julie Wunder, who got out from under her weather maps to do some actual reporting, such as it was… Pack Square Park construction is going slower than expected. Looks like the project won’t be complete until early 2008. The construction work has messed up traffic and taken away precious downtown parking spaces, said Larry “Gloryhole” Blunt… And finally, Jon “Punnyman” Le says skateboarders in Hendersonville want a skate park like the one we’ve got in Ashvegas.

Yeah, that might be excessive. Then, again, I’ve never had somebody trying to kill me with a 3500-pound hunk of metal, so I can’t really say how many shots I would fire to get them to stop.
What exactly is "sexy" about the street ho story? They haven’t picked up any politicians offering "advice" to the local streetwalkers lately, have they?
true, marc. but SIX times? did they have to hit him with SIX bullets?
Not saying the cops should have killed the guy, but I think the thing about him being shot in the head is a non-issue. If he was driving in reverse, good chance his head was turned to see which cop he was going to run over, so it seems entirely plausible that a shot from the side or rear of the vehicle could have hit him in the back of the head.
