Your new Asheville City Council member?

This is a photo of Esther Elizabeth Manheimer, one of five people Asheville City Council plans to choose from on Tuesday to fill the open seat left by Councilwoman Holly Jones’ move over the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners.

A friend and loyal reader here is convinced that Manheimer will be picked. Others are sure that it will be Sylvia Farrington. My pick is Chuck Archerd. Also in the running: Charlie Hume and Kelly Miller.

Here’s more on Manheimer:

Esther joined Van Winkle in 2002. Her practice focuses on civil litigation and transactional support with a concentration on land use law. She spent her first four years after law school as an attorney for the North Carolina General Assembly, serving a number of committees as committee counsel. Among those were the Senate Commerce Committee and the House Judiciary and Utilities Committees. She also served on a number of special legislative committees including Utility Deregulation and Legislative Redistricting.

Who do you think will get the nod?

I’m pretty sure that a full time job and three children under the age of 7 could be construed as "working for a living". 🙂

Manheimer or Farrington. More likely Manheimer.

I’m surprised you’re choosing Archerd, Ash.

Well, thank God the Council has come to their senses! Manheimer is a safe bet and is already a member of the local Power Elite. Whew! For a few weeks there I was worried they might actually pick someone who worked for a living (as opposed to serving on "special legislative committees").
