Word on the street: Second brewery coming to Asheville’s River Arts District; Silver Dollar Cafe to become beer garden

Share

More beer is coming to Asheville’s River Arts District, which is already home to my favorite local brewery, The Wedge, and several great bars/venues that serve up suds.

A second brewery is in the works for the RAD, according to word I’m hearing. The plan is to have it open before the end of the year. I don’t have details on exactly where, but I’m hearing that that it’s going to be done by someone serious about opening a nano-brewery, not someone just interested in opening a bar and maybe making some of their own beer.

Meantime, plans are in the works to renovate the Silver Dollar Cafe. The new concept being discussed for the cafe on Clingman Avenue across from the Grey Eagle is a beer garden-type joint. The Mountain Xpress has other detail here.

So, more great action down by the river.

I'm a champion for free enterprise but I wonder if or when Asheville will reach a critical mass with the breweries and bars?
