Local Taco opened in the summer of 2013 in the former location of popular, locally owned restaurant Boca. Major renovation work created a lovely space, which opened onto outside courtyard seating on Lexington, which is Asheville’s most eclectic downtown street, populated with a variety of locally owned shops.
Asheville loves its tacos, but Local Taco never really caught on. It didn’t help that it was a chain restaurant in the midst of local independents.
No word on what’s next. Stay tuned.

Not too surprised. Went there a couple of times and was impressed, just not in a good way. White Duck Taco has it in spades over this joint.
I have to echo the comments about Vincent’s Ear, that place was great! Sorely missed.
I worked there for a few months last fall and quit because I couldn’t make any money. Several times I served investors, who would run up huge tabs, ask for their discounts, and tip me a calculated 10 percent based on the discounted price. They deserve what they got.
just a few doors down, Hopefully that disgusting filth ridden hole MELA, and their racist owners will also be shut down. Can’t run an Indian restaurant with bad karma!
Please elaborate on the racism.
Yes, please do elaborate on the racism.
I ate there once shortly after they opened and ordered what sounded on the menu like a lighter ‘street taco’ with shrimp, tuna, etc. and what I got was slathered in some sort of mayo-based sauce with vegetables/pico de gallo that were less than inspiring. It did not come out the way it was supposed to based on the menu. I was unimpressed and did not go back a 2nd time.
Let’s get rid of farm burger next!
Get rid of it? Why? Are you being forced to eat there?
Except for the music being too loud, FB rocks!
I will never understand the fascination with FB. People like what they like though, so it’s all good. I’ve tried it on three different occasions, and everytime, if it weren’t for condiments and extras, the burger would be absolutely flavorless. It’s their job to season their food. I’ve had better burgers at Five Guys of all places.
One of the few regional chain restaurants downtown and the only one with “local” in the name. Oh the irony! Should have been called Corporate Taco. That has to be the best space downtown, hope something deserving comes there.
— — USED to be one of the best spaces downtown. Vincent’s Ear courtyard, that anyone could enjoy, now just tables of tourists staring back at you. So sad.
Long overdue for closing. Great patio. The space won’t last long.
Long overdue for closing. Went twice early on and never again. Left it to the unsuspecting tourists.
Good. Get outta town Regional Taco!
I think the format sunk this place. A sit down, with a server, taco joint. I went once. I’m not downing the servers, but if you have to factor in a tip for a quick, cheap lunch it can, at times, be a deterrent. Or if you just want a quick taco, etc. it’s a little drug out, the way the format was. The food was good, if they were set up like a mamacitas, or Urban Burrito, then I would of frequented much more often, and I think they would of done just fine, chain or not.
Surprised? I’m not.
Long live Vincent’s Ear!!!
Hear, Hear!
It’s my understanding that Bouchon is expanding into the space
