Word on the street: Janirve Foundation to close up shop this year and let someone else manage the last of its money

Word on the street is that the Janirve Foundation is going to close down a year earlier than announced and turn over the management of the last of its philanthropic endeavors to someone else. The Janirve Foundation has had an incredible impact on Western North Carolina. We’ll have to watch and see what it does with the last of its money.

Here’s part of a press release issued last year that gives a little more background on Janirve:

Established in 1984, the Janirve Foundation will close its doors in October 2012 in accordance with the wishes of its founders, Jeannette and Irving Reuter, after having distributed more than $100 million to nonprofits in the region. The legacy fund at the community foundation will ensure that western North Carolina’s many small nonprofits have a source of funding over the next twenty-five years. Janirve and the community foundation have a long history of collaboration and share a similar service area.

A lot of has been accomplished thanks this JanIrve foundation. This would be a good story for someone to really report on and follow in the future. I'm sure there is a lot of material from so many years in WNC.
