What’s been in the news: I’ve been slack

Last week, I hardly kept up with WLOSers and the news, although they’re helping me out by actually posting some of their stories on their web site. So I’m trying to catch up this week.

Pat apparently is still hanging around – he reported a story yesterday. Russ is now helming the 10 on the MY40 alongside Holly, and Frabonehead has moved into the 5 and 5:30 next to Tammy.

In some news that I saw Tuesday night, WLOSers said City Council approved a new bicycle taxi service for downtown Asheville. It’s called “Your Chariot Awaits. Oh, and Black Mountain Ford is closing. WLOSers have been reporting on that businesses problems with paying people for their trade-ins. WLOSers say the DMV is investigating the business.

Here’s some of what WLOSers had on Monday:

Brevard College fight
WLOSer Sheraldo said there was a fight among six men on the Brevard College campus early Sunday morning. It started off campus after three white guys attacked three black guys at a local community center. The white guys used fists, a knife, a gun and a car to threaten and attack the black guys, Sheraldo said. The police told Sheraldo there were ethnic slurs, vulgarities, obscenities, fighting, kicking and hitting.

In other news…
Former Fletcher police officer Adam White is suing the former police chief, Langdon Raymond, accusing him of assault.

Doctor, did you beat your wife?
In a bizarre story, WLOSer Kassandra “Special K” Pride stumbled her way through one weak-ass story – a story about a local surgeon accused of beating his wife. Dr. Warner Brooks stands accused, said Kassandra, who talked to one source – a woman who says she’s a former patient to the orthopedic surgeon and actually works selling orthopedic supplies to his patients. She says the doc is a great doc and his personal life should be left alone.

Kassandra said the doc is accused of punching his wife in the head.

In still other news…
Heather Lacey of Haywood County will spend 13 months in jail after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter. The woman’s child died after getting into her purse or something and eating pain pills.

In some random news…
Some cities have drinking water laced with trace amounts of common drugs, such as birth control pill drugs and anti-depressants. But our water is OK, WLOSers said, because waste water isn’t dumped into our drinking water source.

Predatory towing
WLOSers last week did a story or two on “predatory towing” and sent Frabonehead out with a ruler to measure signs in local parking lots that are supposed to warn people they’ll be towed if they park there. Frank said several of the signs don’t meed the city’s requirements.

Hendersonville wiki ruse
And WLOSer John “Punnyman” Le hit the streets of downtown Hendersonville to do a story about how somebody went on Hendersonville’s Wikipedia page and wrote some crazy stuff, like the town is entirely populated by monkeys and has a 500-foot-tall bear.
