West Asheville Watch takes a break, much to the ire of some residents

Share

West Asheville residents came together online two years ago at a popular Facebook group called West Asheville Watch, as well as a separate blog site under the same name. Residents sought answers, and a serious police response, to a series of violent home invasions in August 2011. The organizing resulted in positive results, with police cracking the crimes and residents getting to better know one another.

Over the resulting two years, residents weighed in on everything from other neighborhood crimes to lost pets. The sites became a valuable micro-local information resource.

But the sites suddenly went offline Tuesday night, without explanation. All the information that was posted is gone. Emily Bidwell, a regular poster to the WAW FB site, reports:

The FB pages are gone, the main website is being retooled to bring a lot more like classifieds, postings – things like that.

If anyone has more information about the deletion and/or changes, please let me know.

Meantime, the residents have reorganized under a new FB group, https://www.facebook.com/groups/westasheville/. Another new site is the West Asheville Mumble Bitch and Moan FB site.

You can also go to West Asheville Exchange. And West Pets is all about the animals. Don’t forget the East West Asheville Neighborhood group.
