West Asheville percolating with new business ventures

Share

Here’s a great note from loyal Ashvegas reader Dusty. Can folks help fill in the blanks?

From Dusty:

Hey Jason!

I hope all is well in your world! I just wanted to reach out and see what you could dig up on some of the several new businesses and ventures launching forth in West Asheville. Here is what I am noticing:

– Of course, The Hop has recently taken over the Two Spoons space.

-Something has finally taken up shop in the new Village on Haywood Road complex. Maybe a women’s boutique? Anything else slated to arrive soon?

– The new “Canvas” looks interesting. It is going into the Blend Photography space next to Tolliver’s. They are on FB and Twitter but here is their website: http://www.paintandmingle.com/

– I saw that the little building across Haywood from Sunnypoint is going to be Viva Europa Deli and Market soon. Didn’t they use to be in Montford where Tod’s Tasties is now located? (My answer – yes, Viva Europa used to be located there in Montford. The new Viva Delicatessen is going to be operated by the same folks that did Europa.)

– What is up with the old Fortune building? The windows on street level reveal used books on display , funky furniture, and an assortment of other items but it’s never open. Someone watering the plants outside one evening told me that a person had plans to create something of a “West Asheville Visitor Center or ad-hoc Chamber of Commerce” …any ideas?

Finally…I must say that I love living in the heart of West Asheville but I would so love for Malaprops/Downtown Books to open up a good cozy little indy bookstore in the hood. Hello Emoke??

Will Viva Delicatessen be hiring for their new location on Haywood Road?

Just a small correction about the Viva Europa Market & Deli post. Viva Delicatessen is owned by just one of the owners from Viva Europa and two other partners. Chef Glenn was one of the owners of Viva Europa responsible for all of the delicious food there. Glenn along with new partner's Peter and Stacy now bring Viva Delicatessen to 625 Haywood Rd. Hopefully we'll be open by the end of Nov. Follow us on twitter: Viva_Deli

There is a fabulous new hair salon going in at the end of Haywood across the street from the day care. It's called Bari Salon & the fantastic owners, Sarah Becker & Moriah Luzius (currently working out of Studio Chavvaria & formerly from Hollywood Vampires & Ananda) are hoping to open by the end of the year. They are great girls- young, fun, sweet & covered in beautiful tattoos. Here's their blog: http://barisalon.wordpress.com – fb: facebook.com/barisalon & twitter: Bari Salon

Dusty, the new arrival in the Village on Haywood is Jen Swearington's Jet Set Studio, where she makes her Jennythreadsmixed-media clothing: http://www.jennythreads.net/home.html

Not really a boutique, but a working studio.

I hear there are other tenants as well, but it's still mostly empty.
