Word is there’s a new honey store with a honey tasting bar planning to open on Haywood Road in West Asheville. The business will also feature retail products, all with a bee, hive or hexagon pattern to it. The store plans to feature honey from all over the country from local bee keepers: think organic and kosher honey.
This week, Gina Smith of Mountain Xpress offers more detail. The Asheville Bee Charmer, a business owned by Jillian Kelly and Kim Allen, is set to open in February at 707 Haywood Road next to The Mothlight. The couple loves to cook with honey and are building a new home in north Asheville, where they plan to keep their own bees, Smith reports.
Check Asheville Bee Charmer on Facebook to keep up with them.

I LOVE this idea and I think others will too. The word is out about how important bees are to humankind, and how many delicious honeys there are. And W Asheville is moving up fast as a “go to” place. If they also sell clever bee-related items, it will be very successful.
This won’t last long.
Why not? For the 5+ years that I have lived here, an OLIVE OIL store has occupied prime real estate on Biltmore Avenue. I’m willing to bet that there are as many, if not more, people willing to buy and taste honey than olive oil.
I think it might, if it’s run well there’s definitely a niche for this kind of thing. Not sure about the haywood road location, tho, …but maybe they’re planning on catering to locals more than tourists. And are they going to sell honey only? Or will they provide bee keeping supplies and resources?
We’ll see.
