Cleveland Construction Inc. is holding an open house event on Tuesday to connect with subcontractors, tradesmen and other vendors interested in working on a massive downtown project that will create an estimated 500 construction jobs.
The project is the remodeling of the former BB&T office building into a structure that will be home to a 128-room boutique hotel, two independent restaurants, 54 condominiums, retail space for lease and a parking garage. The 18-story building, Asheville’s tallest building, has been renamed The Arras.
It’s one of the biggest downtown construction projects since the $17 million remodeling of Pack Square Park in the mid 2000s. Work is schedule to start in January and take about two years.
John McKibbon, chairman of McKibbon Hospitality, and Tower Associates chairman Glenn W. Wilcox, Sr., the former owner of the building, are partnering on the project after McKibbon bought the building a few years ago. McKibbon’s company is also working on another new downtown hotel, the AC Hotel, just across the street from The Arras.
During the open house, Cleveland Construction will give an overview of the project plans, schedule, and project goals, according to a news release. Here’s more:
Computers will be set up for subcontractors to sign up to receive the bid notifications and project documents. Tradesmen looking for work are also encouraged to attend the open house. Tradesmen can personally submit their resumes for the many job opportunities that will be available during construction of the hotel.
The open house runs from 9 a.m. until noon at The Orange Peel on Biltmore Avenue.
