Sat., December 8 at 7:30pm, the Violin Monster at Firestorm Cafe

Violin Monster fiddles tunes for unsuspecting audiences on street corners, clubs and theaters, and around national and city landmarks. Hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, he is traveling south this winter to share his spooky and delightful tunes with new people. A truly unforgettable musical experience, he has appeared in the Boston Globe, performed at Mardi Gras, and was featured on Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations” on the Travel Channel featuring a performance at SXSW. Come out, share the night and some happiness with the Violin Monster. Awwwwwooooooooooooo!!!!! – 48 Commerce St. facebook.com/violinmonster

Here’s more about the Faces of the 99 % photography show by John Gellman, up now at Firestorm Cafe:

The crowds were out in Asheville on Friday night. From the Occupy Asheville demonstrators, to the usual drum circle folks, the locals, the tourists, the homeless, and the college students, just about everyone was on the streets. I set up camp with the help of a few assistants next to a plain wall by a sidewalk, and offered free portraits to all members of the 99% as they passed by. I would have been happy to do portraits of any one per-centers out there, but they would have had to pay. The lighting was simple. Just a speedlight inside a small softbox and a reflector. All pics were taken at the same spot. The background seems to vary due to the time of day and how far the softbox was positioned from the wall. I have no idea how many of the people who stopped to pose were part of the Occupy Asheville movement, but I’m fairly certain they were all part of the 99% whether they were demonstrating or not. Thanks so much to everyone who posed for me, and to Sonia, Kelly, and Walt for their help. Scroll down to see a sampling of the faces.
