All weekend

Mountain Sports Festival, based at Carrier Park down by the French Broad River, features everything from running and cycling to disc golf and skateboarding. It’s kid-friendly, and there’s a full musical lineup as well, including Empire Strikes Brass, Pierce Edens, The Nth Power and David Earl & The Plowshares and much more.

Americana Burlesque and Sideshow Festival, at venues around town, including the Orange Peel and The Grey Eagle. It’s Asheville’s sexy side, with burlesque dancers, circus performers and much more.

-Tube the French Broad, but be careful – all the recent rains mean the river will be running high. Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start of the summer river rafting season

-The annual Beer City Festival is all about celebrating the area’s amazing craft beer industry. The event kicks off Asheville Beer Week, which keeps the celebration, and the beer, flowing.


-A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held beginning at 2:30 p.m. on the big stage in Pack Square Park in downtown Asheville. The  Army National Guard’s Army Band will perform before and after the ceremony honoring those who died in the line of duty while serving in the U.S. armed forces.

-At the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, a 10 a.m. ceremony will be held to honor the day. American flags will be placed at all of the cemeteries’ more than 5,700 grave sites.
