The heat has broken a little bit, which means there’s no better time to get out there and enjoy it. Here’s what we’ve got for you this time around:

Thursday-Monday

The Asheville Yoga Festival @ downtown Asheville

Hours vary

The Yoga Festival brings internationally-acclaimed teachers and musicians to spots around town. Check out Amanda Giacomini’s 10,000 Buddhas project on the side of Strada and the Social Lounge in downtown Asheville, hit a class with local teachers like Cat Matlock and Adi Westerman, and check out a talk from MC Yogi and Giacomini, go for a yoga hike, or give back through a river clean-up, among many other things.

Thursday

Revolve Sound Four @ Revolve Gallery

8-10 pm

Experimental sounds from Tashi Dorji, Sandy Ewen, and Kimathi Moore at Asheville’s hippest art gallery + venue. $10 includes refreshments.

Friday

Funny Business Presents Locally Brewed Comedy @ the Grey Eagle

8 – 9:30 pm

The best local comedians take the stage at this uproarious evening, including Minori Hinds, Blaine Perry, Moira Gorey, Chesney Goodson, Kelly Morgan, Hilliary Begley, Macon Clark, Tom Peters and host Peter Smith McDowell. $10 in advance.

Nihlist Cheerleader with the Power, Jackson Harem, Dot.s @ the Mothlight

9 – midnight

Punk dance group Nihlist Cheerleader hails from Athens. With a name like that, it’s sure to be the best way to spend your evening.

Friday and Saturday

River Arts District Community Meetings @ 14 Riverside Drive

3 – 5 pm and 5 – 7 pm Friday, 10 – noon Saturday

Attendees will learn more details about the massive infrastructure project that’s about to kick into high gear in the RAD

Saturday
7-10 am
The event run alls day Saturday and again Sunday at Grove Stone & Sand in Black Mountain. Take on one tough obstacle course, or come and cheer racers on.
8 pm – 2 am
Celebrate summer with this soul-infused night of fabulous local bands in honor of B-sides keyboardist Jeff Knorr.

Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band plus GFE @ the Orange Peel

9 pm – midnight

Everyone’s favorite brass-tootin’ funkmasters play the Orange Peel invites you to come shake it.

The 50th Anniversary of Pink Floyd’s Piper at the Gates of Dawn @ the Grey Eagle

9 – midnight

The Madcap Collective will play the classic, and unabashedly weird and wonderful, album in its entirety.

Sunday

A Sunday in NOLA @ Burial Beer and Salt & Smoke

12:30 – 4:30

A collaborative brunch menu designed by Salt & Smoke and New Orleans’s Golden Feather, accompanied by performances from LEAF International’s Delta Jazz Group, Simon George Jazz Trio, and masking from Big Chief Shaka Zulu. A portion of proceeds go to LEAF Inernational: New Orleans.

Jeff Knorr Memorial @ Salvage Station 

3 pm

Come out and honor the life of one of the pillars of Asheville’s music community.

HotPoint Trio @ Salvage Station

3 – 6 pm

Acoustic swing jazz trio HotPoint Trio takes the stage at this early show, which will have you cutting a rug as you nosh on the Salvage Station’s delicious food. The music pays homage to Parisian cafes of the 1930s, Django Reinhardt, and more.

Beach Bash with Ouroboros Boys, Les Amis @ The Grey Eagle

5 pm

This killer lineup will bring West African jazz/rock group Les Amis together with goth-beach-rockers Ouroboros Boys, plus a DJ who will spin the best, bubbliest summertime sounds. $5, family friendly, AND tiki drink specials
