UNC Tar Heel’s men’s basketball coach Roy Williams is set to be honored during half-time of the Owen-Erwin football game on Friday. Williams will be inducted into Owen High School’s athletics Hall of Fame. Loyal reader Murphy says he’s hearing that ESPN will be there to cover the ceremony.
Williams is a 2007 inductee into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He will play in the Roy Williams Hall of Fame Classic at Black Mountain Golf Course on Friday, and may also attend a fundraising dinner.
Here’s the lead on the story previewing this event by Asheville Citizen-Times sportswriter Keith Jarrett:
Rarely does a basketball coach get inducted into a high school’s Hall of Fame after posting a career record 21 games under .500.
But rarer still does the coach go on to a Hall of Fame career that includes a pair of national championships and more than 600 wins as one of college basketball’s top coaches.
Owen High will honor North Carolina coach Roy Williams by inducting him into the school’s athletics Hall of Fame on August 27.
