UNC system president will recommend expanding pharmacy school program in Asheville

The bad news for Greensboro is good news for Asheville, apparently. From The Business Journal:

UNC President Erskine Bowles has decided to recommend against allowing UNC-Greensboro to plan a School of Pharmacy, according to UNCG’s chancellor.

Chancellor Linda Brady said in a note to trustees and others that Bowles will recommend that UNC-Chapel Hill establish a satellite to its existing pharmacy school program in Asheville. The recommendations will be made to a committee of the Board of Governors later this week.

Bowles decision came after a team of consultants visited both schools to evaluate their pharmacy school plans. His decision is consistent with the recommendation of the consultants, but Brady said that result was unexpected.

The Greensboro News & Record also has the story.

Huh? I thought we just got through applauding Wingate opening a pharmacy grad program in Asheville? Did I get that wrong?
