DigTriad has the story:
The Pennsylvania-based electronic company announced this week they will cut approximately 2,500 positions worldwide.
Tyco Electronics, formerly partnered with Tyco International, plan to eliminated the jobs by the end of the second quarter in 2009 which is March.
“These are difficult decisions for our company, but they are necessary to ensure that we can maintain our financial health until the global economy recovers,” says Chief Executive Officer Tom Lynch.
Tyco would not release specific numbers of employees in the Triad that would be cut. Mike Ratcliff with Tyco’s Media Relations, told WFMY News 2 on the phone they don’t give out specific numbers.
He said the reductions are company wide. Ratcliff said, Tyco has 96,000 employees globally and 26,000 of them are in North and South America.
The electronics company produces electronic components, wireless communication systems and telecommunication components.
North Carolina locations include several in Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Asheville and outside Charlotte.
In Asheville, Tyco’s operation is located out on Sweeten Creek Road. Anybody heard any details about how this will play out here?
