Groundbreaking for the new Ruth's Chris Steak House in Asheville was held in February

Two new restaurants – The Asheville Public and Ruth’s Chris Steak House – are preparing to open soon, adding more choices to Asheville’s juicy restaurant scene.

The Asheville Public plans to open within two weeks, according to its page on Facebook. The restaurant is opening in the River Arts District, in the space formerly occupied by The Silver Dollar. The restaurant is owned by husband-and-wife team Mark and Jenny Henegan, with chef John Daniel Schwalje and his wife Dara filling out the team. They plan to focus on local food, farm-specific meat and more. They also plan to make their own bacon, ham and sausages. A garden and outdoor seating is also part of the plan on down the line.

The Asheville Public will be the third restaurant to have opened this year in the River Arts District – White Duck Taco and The Junction have are also relatively new to the scene, having been open less than and year. Add to that the one-year-old The Magnetic Field, which has a fantastic menu, and you’ve got a brilliant new food scene going there.

Ruth’s Chris is part of a chain that plans to open soon at 26 All Souls Crescent near Biltmore Village. They’re all about higher-end dining and steak, of course. From an earlier press release:

Asheville Prime LLC, the ownership group, consists of local developer and entrepreneur John Bell, CEO of The Columbus Group, Inc., and Ruth’s Chris franchisee Paula Conway. Paula and her husband Jeff, former CFO of Ruth’s Chris Steak House Inc., formed Charlotte Prime LLC in 2005 when offered the rare opportunity to become franchise owners. Since then, they have opened three restaurants, two in Charlotte, NC and one in historic Savannah, GA.

Welcome to the new eateries!
