More details are emerging about two Asheville hotel projects proposed for Biltmore Avenue just south of the heart of downtown. Here’s a quick look:
Extended Stay Hotel at Hospital Center
The proposal calls for the construction of a seven-story building containing 102 rooms at 324 Biltmore Ave. and 104 parking spaces. This hotel concept is designed around serving people with family/friends at nearby Mission Hospital. Property owner is Milan Hotels is the developer; Civil Design Concepts is the project engineer.
This concept would spread 56 rooms across one new, five-story building and three existing buildings. The three existing buildings are considered historic structures, and preservation easements on the buildings mean the structures are protected. The preservation easements do not limit the use of the buildings at 123, 129 and 137 Biltmore Ave. The Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe considers 137 Biltmore Ave. one of the finest examples of residential construction in latter part of the 18th century in Asheville.
This project is by Preserve Communities Groups, the same developer of a proposed 77,800-square-foot, seven-story condo building at 145 Biltmore Ave.
Of note: Biltmore Avenue was once known as Main Street in Asheville.

Whew, just in time, too. It’s been almost an hour since the last new hotel proposal was announced. I thought we were all going to die shivering in the dark.
I call it Airport Architecture. Looks like something you would see on the edges of any major airport.
In regards to the extended stay property, all I can say is thank God. I had feared we’d get something attractive, or in a groundbreaking contemporary style, and was beginning to itch. But now I feel much better knowing that, instead, we’re getting another heaping spoonful of that good ol’ “Charlotte Boring” style.
There’s our favorite broken record!
Yeah, that’s the real problem, not the people building taupe cuboids.
