Top photojournalists gather in Asheville for weekend conference

There’s going to be a great group of photojournalists gathered in Asheville this weekend for the N.C. Press Photographer Association’s conference.

From Carol Motsinger of the Asheville Citizen-Times:

Some of the state’s best press photographers will receive a more traditional art showing treatment this weekend, as the Photographer Association hosts a show, auction and presentation at Pink Dog Creative in the River Arts District at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The show features works by four past winners of the group’s Photojournalists of the Year honors. The evening will also feature presentations by the three judges for the NCPPA’s 2012 Photo of the Year competitions: Charles Dharapak, of The Associated Press; Eric Seals, photo and video journalist at the Detroit Free Press; and Gerry Melendez, of The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C.

The 2011 Photographer of the Year is Logan Mock-Bunting, a freelancer who splits his time between Washington, D.C., and coastal Carolina shores.

He’s photographed in more than a dozen countries for a variety of editorial and advertising clients, and his work has appeared in such publications as Time, Newsweek, National Geographic Adventure, World Magazine, People, USA TODAY, Los Angles Times, The Guardian (London), as well as on the front page of The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Washington Post and the International Herald Tribune.
