From loyal reader Kyle:
Was wondering if you all are doing anything in the mountain xpress or on ashvegas about what we can do to help in haiti. Here is a great link if you wanted to put something on the blog. http://www.yele.org/ Also wrote a poem (don’t know if you put poems out there, but hey I thought I would give it a try…)
Rumbles,
Crumbles,
Stumble as you see
Hundreds
Thousands
Dead
Trapped
Underneath the streets
Pushing
Fighting
To be free
to breathe
a breath
to take a handhere we sit
jaw to the floor
wanting
wishing
to do more
to make a difference
in some small way
to turn off the screen
as they scream
as they suffer
as they search
for something
of their worth
what exactly
can we do
to help them through…
Thank you, Kyle.

Sending money to an organization you trust is the only and best way to help right now. In the next days and weeks the country is going to experience the full effect of a devastated infrastructure. Access to clean water and sewage treatment is the first priority. The potential loss of life from disease could far exceed the initial loss of the earthquake itself. Recovery is going to be a prolonged effort. In the meantime, the tendency is to divert funds from our local charities. Those of us who are able to reach down into our pockets and do both are to be highly commended.
Kyle your comments are heart felt. According to the experts, the most important thing you can do NOW is give money to Doctors without Borders or the Red Cross. Thanks for caring! cheers T
I am a big fan of Wyclef’s music, but this link today causes concern:

It raises serious questions about yele.org’s accounting practices.
