The Weight Band, featuring former members of The Band, will play the main stage of Isis Music Hall in West Asheville on Friday. You can buy tickets here for this seated show.
“I love the town of Asheville,” says Jim Weider, guitar, mandolin and vocals, and former member of The Band, in a press release.
“It reminds me of my hometown Woodstock, N.Y., in the Catskill Mountains – like a Southern version, with artistic, creative people in a beautiful setting and very musical,” Weider says in the release.
The show is the only North Carolina stop on The Weight’s national tour. Their supporting their new album, “World Gone Mad,” which includes classic Band songs like Cripple Creek, The Weight, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down and more.
Started in 2013 inside the famed Woodstock barn of Levon Helm, The Weight Band brings together Weider and Randy Ciarlante — both former members of The Band —and Byron Isaacs, Brian Mitchell and Marty Grebb to carry on legacy of the unforgettable rock band.
The Weight Band has since added Albert Rogers, Michael Bram and Matt Zeiner to make up their current lineup.
“The audience can expect to hear their favorite classic Band songs and songs from our new album, ‘World Gone Mad,’” Weider says in the news release. “There’s five vocalists and we share the songs around with each other, trading verses and all amazing instrumental soloists in their own right, from accordion to mandolin to harp to electric instruments.”

Most assuredly fine musicians but to associate them with The Band is a stretch. I guess I’m just too old and too lucky to have seen The Band live six times between 1969 and 1976………..
