The news has been a bit dry lately. And it’s sweeps. C’mon, WLOSers! You guys need to get it going. We need some news! Onward:
Teen doesn’t want to be deported
WLOSers had a story about a Roberson teen named Rubidia who is 16 or 17 and faces deportation. This is a complicated story and we really didn’t pay attention.
Police wrecks in the news
The story about local police officers wrecking their vehicles remains in the news. On Tuesday, WLOSers said people who train officers have noticed and want to do something to stop all the wrecks.
On Tuesday, a Buncombe County deputy driving 50 mph in a 25 mph zone on Hamburg Mountain Road wrecked. He was on the way to a call.
Illegal dumping is bad
WLOSer Susan Mundy brought us a story that WLOS does every year – illegal dumping in the mountains sucks. It ruins our beautiful mountains and gasp! it’s against the law.
Mundy went out to Barnardsville where county workers were pulling couches out of a beautiful little stream. Winter is a great time to attack the trash because vermin are staying warm somewhere else and you can see it, Mundy said.
Don’t feed the peanut butter to the dogs
Shelter dogs at the Asheville Humane Society shelter were having problems with the shits, and it turns out that workers there were feeding the pooches peanut butter that may have been tainted with salmonella. The shelter has thrown out all the peanut butter with the lot number beginning “2111” and are asking for peanut butter donations to restock.
Dayco demolished
Demolition started this week on the old Dayco rubber plant in Waynesville. The plant is being torn down to make way for a new Wal-Mart and shopping center. WLOSer Terrie Foster brought us the story about he plant, which was closed in 1997.
