From USA Today:
The decade of 2000-09 was the Earth‘s warmest on record, according to data released last week by the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) in Asheville, N.C.
The climate center reported that the decade’s average global surface temperature was almost 1 degree above the 20th-century average. This shattered the 1990s reading, which was 0.65°F above average.
The global average is based on readings from more than 7,200 ground weather stations around the world and from ships and buoys at sea. Global weather data go back to 1880.
The NCDC reports two sustained periods of warming have been recorded in the past 130 years, one that occurred from around 1910-1945, and the most recent worldwide warming trend, which began around 1976.
“Temperatures during the latter period of warming have increased at a rate comparable to the rates of warming projected to occur during the next century, with continued increases of anthropogenic (man-made) greenhouse gases,” noted climatologist Ahira Sanchez-Lugo in an online report.

There is no way global warming is happening. After all, I was really really cold last week. And it snowed and stuff. 🙂
Not sure the National Climate Data Center can be trusted. Has anyone read this story out of California? http://www.kusi.com/weather/colemanscorner/40749822.html
Why don’t people get it. We contribute to the green house gasses thus speeding up the natural warming trends of the earth. Although naturally occurring the earth has not been as populated in the past and the extreme swings in weather might cause a correction (destruction) of man made objects. This in turn causes financial hardships for all economies. So why not try to slow the warming trend. We can not eliminate it but we could some how stop contributing so much. The US is not the guilty party but Chinas dirty coal plants all over the place sure is.
And I am sure that all the republicans out there believe that every time it gets cold it is just more proof that a global warming trend is a lie.
If the first day of the month is day one (1) and the first month of the year is month one (1), shouldn’t the first year of a decade be year one (1) or, for our current calendar, year 2011 (ending in one)?
This is year 10 (2010) which is the 10th year of the current decade (notice, ending in zero)..
Why do "the media" think that the first year of the decade is year 10? Or, in this case, the National Climatic Data Center, call 2000-2009 a decade (unless "any" ten years may be called a "decade") when it’s actually the 10th year of the previous decade and the 9th year of the current one (as in 2009)?
Shouldn’t it take a whole 10 years to make a decade, as in 1-10?
Careful now indeed. The Asheville NCDC has been caught manipulating the data to make it look like Global Warming is taking place. I have the report and videos that relate to this hoax. %5Blink%5D
Careful–you’ll make the tea party people angry. They don’t like to hear any science that might suggest global warming.
This correlates with a lot of the science reports and discussions I had with scientist while working in Antarctica, especially at The South Pole.
