It’s summer’s last hoorah! The kids are back in school, the nights are getting cooler, and soon it will be time to trade in swimsuits for sweaters. But it’s not over yet, y’all! Thursday, 9/1

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory & Blazing Saddles Double Feature Night @ Asheville Pizza and Brewing  

7 pm and 10 pm

The great comedian, actor, and producer Gene Wilder passed away this week. During his lifetime, he was the star of many beloved movies, including the two being screened at Asheville Pizza and Brewing. All ticket proceeds go to the Ovarian Cancer Alliance, so you’ll be laughing for a good cause while you’re celebrating a beautiful life.

Wild and Scenic Film Festival @ Sierra Nevada (Mills River)
7 – 10 pm
Mountain True and Sierra Nevada host this film festival, featuring the best in short-form nature, outdoor adventure and wilderness film’s from the past year.
Rasheeda Speaking opens @ the BEBE Theatre
Runs from September 1-17Thursday – Saturday @ 7:30
A play that takes on race and the workplace hosted by Different Strokes! Performing Arts Collective. Recently off Broadway, it’s hailed as  a darkly funny, satirical depiction of workplace dynamics in “post­racial” America. Featuring AVL actors.
Off the Rails! @ the Magnetic Theatre
7:30 pm
This “rollicking farce” from Lucia Del Vecchio includes mystery, intrigue, adventure, and plenty of “sexual shenanigans.” Thursdays through Saturdays until September 24th.
Friday, 9/2
Lexington Corner Market Grand Opening Celebration
Friday @ 3 pm – Sunday @ 6 pm
Complimentary beer, wine, and food tastings at downtown’s new corner market!
The Future of Fixing @ the Center for Craft, Creativity, and Design
6 pm
An opening reception for the CCCD’s new exhibition, which “examines attitudes of repair.” Featuring 15 international and national design studios and artists who examine, analyze, and disrupt repairs.
God & Country @ Satellite Gallery
7 pm
An opening reception that celebrates works from two of our favorite local artists, Alli Good and Hannah Dansie, as they probe questions of identity, community, and more.

Saturday, 9/3

Marley Carroll with RBTS WIN, Doc Aquatic @ the Mothlight
9 pm
This trifecta of Asheville musicians take the stage for a night of sensational beats. This may be the hottest line-up in town we’ve seen in a while.
Jeff Thompson Giving Trio w/ Honey Magpie @ the Altamont Theatre 
8 pm
Check out this multimedia show from one of Asheville’s favorite musicians and his band, featuring original music from the trio, gorgeous watercolor projections paired with songs, choreographed movement, and special guests.
Sunday, 9/4
Beer City Cup Finals @ Memorial Stadium
9 am – 7 pm
The final games of the nation’s largest adult soccer event happen in our own Beer City. Nothing pairs better with sports than cold, delicious craft beer, are we right?
1st Annual Social Fest! @ the Social in East Asheville
12 noon-2 am
One of our favorite “locals” bars hosts the first edition of its music festival, featuring Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats, Lyric, Ryan Perry Band and more on two stages!
Monday, 9/5 (Labor Day!)
110th Annual Canton Labor Day Festival in Canton, NC
9/4-9/5
America’s oldest-running Labor Day Festival runs through Sunday and Monday, featuring live music from Yonder Mountain String Band, Mountain Faith, Joe Lasher Jr, Balsam Range, and Lyric.
Labor Day Cookout w/ Intentional Swine @ All Souls Pizza
1 pm
The last cookout of the summer from Intentional Swine in the big field beside the RAD’s All Souls Pizza! Cold beers, live music and delicious food from the grill ’til it runs out. Families welcome! Intentional Swine is also running a Kickstarter to open a whole animal butcher shop, deli, and cafe offering local and specialty meats from ethical farms. If you’re a meat eater, intentional about your meat–support Intentional Swine!
