I can hear the commenters now – it’s about time.
It’s about time for the end of times. And it’s about time for Ashvegas to get his hair cut.
What began as a funny bit of poking fun at all the predictions of the rapture this weekend among Twitter friends this morning quickly turned into a real hair cut for me, and a chance to raise some money for a local nonprofit.
It all started when Twitter bud PluckyChicken suggested folks shave for the doomsday event. In the course of conversation, I volunteered to let people shave the hair on my noggin. It’s been about two years since I had a serious hair cut, and in light of Judgment Day, I figured what the hell.
So here’s what we’re doing:
Come out to Sazerac, Asheville’s amazing cocktail bar, on Saturday afternoon. Come early and relax. The hair cutting will start promptly at 6 p.m. Donate $25 and you’ll get handed a pair of scissors to clip a lock. Or just give whatever you can, and I’m sure you’ll get your shot. (There’s plenty to go around.)
All the proceeds will go to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, which needs money to repair a washing machine it uses to launder their pet stuff. Hair care professionals from Ananda, Asheville’s killer hair salon, will be on hand to make sure I don’t walk away looking like a mess. (And for a little emotional support for me, I hope.)
Let’s have some fun, celebrate together and raise some much-needed money for our furry friends.

Pictures or it didn't happen.
Glad it's you and NOT me!
Thanks, Leslie! It's so funny – some women hate the long hair, others love it.
Luckily, it does grow fast. And yes, I've never had a fancy haircut from the likes of Ananada, so I'm looking forward to it!
Personally, I will be very sad to see the locks go. There are guys who can rock the long hair at any age, and some who never could– no matter how young.
But I can't think of a better reason to do it than helping Brother Wolf. If your hair grows fast, maybe it can be a recurring fundraiser. OR… is this just a clever ruse to get a free haircut from Ananda? ;o)
Great guy, great event, great cause! Thanks, Jason!
The beauty of it is, you can grow it back if you want.
Thanks Jerry.
Thanks for your comment, Shannon.
You, along with many others, are entering middle age. Glad you are choosing to embrace this season of life.
There is hardly anything worse than seeing middle age men who try to hang on to a look that once worked when they were young hipsters. I know you will look so much better!
Take a look at the "People" tab on my website. I believe I've got a shot of you taken at the corner of Haywood and College sometime last year during the snow. If you want it, it's yours…all for the opportunity to weld the scissors also.
buzz cut, Murph.
see you there, Lightnin'.
I. Am. So. There.
(and you owe me $5)
