The Costume Shoppe moves out, Asheville Designer’s Collective expands, at Lex Ave location

From loyal reader Simone:

The Costume Shoppe started in 1979 on lower Broadway. Susan Sertain bought the business in 2002 and moved it from the old house to Haywood Street, then to its current location at 32 N. Lexington. Now she’s moving the costume rental to Riverside Business Park but the business phone number will be the same. You can still get your SantaCon suit, no worries! She will be offering her retail and seasonal wares at 1065 Haywood Road, shared with Gudger’s Flowers.

The concept of the space at 32 N. Lex will expand on the Asheville Designer’s Collective that Sertain founded last year, starting with a handful and now numbering some 20 designers offering local fashion artists a retail venue for their creations.

Jenna Caristo and her husband Joe will be taking over operations at 32 N. Lexington, creating “a boutique featuring locally made clothing and goods, Made in the U.S.A clothing & goods, and high quality vintage clothing and goods… providing Asheville with a charming boutique to purchase lovely handmade pieces and a wonderful opportunity to support local business.”

Susan and the costume shop have saved me in a last minute costume pinch more times than I can count. The Caristos are awesome people as well. I am looking forward to checking out the new locales. Thanks Susan for being such an important part of this city!
