Press release here:

The Asheville Art Museum is pleased to again partner in bringing The Big Crafty to Pack Place and Pack Square on Sunday, July 11, 2010 from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. Admission is FREE.

Voted Asheville’s favorite art/craft fair, The Big Crafty returns this July with a lively celebration of handmade commerce. This juried independent, biannual craft fair features over 140 artists and crafters selected on innovation, creativity, eco-mindedness and other aspects of their work.

These artists and crafters push craft beyond traditional boundaries and blur the lines of art and craft. One of these unique vendors is Final Approach, selling vintage, upcycled suitcases. Subject Matter Studio is screenprinting The Big Crafty posters and having a booth at the event. A new vendor to check out at this summer’s event is Not Made in China with exciting new work and a North Carolina edge. For kid-friendly items, swing by the booths of Crankypants Knits, Uncommon Kid, Knockabout and Betsy Cousins with Wonderland 5.

Organizers, Justin Rabuck and Brandy Bourne work to keep this event local and value the handmade over the mass-produced. Check out our podcast with The Big Crafty organizers Brandy Bourne and Justin Rabuck here! The Big Crafty creates community partnerships as they “knit the community closer.” This summer’s event starts off strong with a pre-party on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. at the Lexington Avenue Brewery (LAB) with live music by Morgan Greer and his band.

The Big Crafty also features artist demonstrations, music by DJ Whitney Shore, live music outside in Pack Square, food and drinks. Short Street Cakes will have cupcakes available for purchase and local crafted beer from Pisgah Brewing and others will be available for a suggested donation.
