Updated at 6:30 p.m. with the rest of the story: Little Bee does not have a brick-and-mortar location. It’s at the French Broad Food Co-op Wednesday Tailgate Market from 2-6 p.m. We apologize for any confusion.
From the Little Bee website:
For special requests, call a minimum of 3 days in advance for pick-up the following Wednesday.
Wednesdays 2:00-6:00 PM at the French Broad Food Co-op
76 Biltmore Ave., Asheville, NC
According to its website, the best-kept-secret Thai place, formerly hidden away in a gas station on Sweeten Creek, has moved next to the French Broad Food Co-op, across the street from the Orange Peel.
Little Bee Thai review in Mountain Xpress calling it the best Thai food in WNC:
Located inside a rather nondescript Exxon gas station in south Asheville, the restaurant offers only a few scattered tables. The counter where the ordering takes place is hilariously close to sugary gas-station cappuccinos and Technicolor slushies, offering a wild juxtaposition to the unfailingly authentic food that’s turned out by the chef and owner of Little Bees, a woman who prefers to go simply as “Took.”
Took’s skills are absolutely no joke. The beef salad is outrageously Thai spicy, the kind that tickles before the satisfyingly lush wave of pain. For sadists and serious spice lovers only, it’s a gratifying dish for those who crave traditionally spicy food that’s un-Americanized. The tom kha is perfect, with actual galangal rather than ginger, and the pad thai will bring you to your knees.

There has been a new sign on the brick & mortar location for a month or more, and I’ve been wondering what’s up. It looks like a new Thai restaurant has taken over the old location on the corner of Sweeten Creek & Mills Gap. What’s the full story & is the new place connected to the original Little Bee?
So will you still have to call them ahead of time to get an order? What qualifies as “special requests”? Does this mean they will not still remain at their Exxon location the other days of the week? I have so many questions!
