TEDxAsheville event sponsors computer recycling program in partnership with Charlotte Street Computers

Here’s the press release. Very cool:

This year, the 2010 TEDxAsheville is sponsoring a computer recycling program in partnership with Charlotte Street Computers. TED and TEDx fans, attending or not, can bring their computer to the event for donation. Computer donations get the donators an entry into a raffle for a prize sponsored by Asheville’s original Mac store, Charlotte Street Computers.

After the event, Charlotte Street Computers will take the computers, salvage parts from the donated systems and build as many computers as possible for underprivileged youth in our community. Parts that are not salvageable will be recycled in an earth-friendly ecologically sound fashion. Charlotte Street will report (maybe another story) on how many computers we can provide to local kids through this drive.

I’d love to see this recycling program go through the roof. Its a multifold community service and, we believe, a great foundation for future recycling programs and TEDxAsheville events. In the event you go for it, I’ve attached logos for your use.

Warmly,

Gina
