Good lort, Y’all. I just powered down a bunch of super delicious food from The Odditorium with some help from Chef Ben Hester. Two great burgers, an awesome Philly, a deep fried tamale, a chicken stick, some fries and some super delish onion rings. Recommend 100% This is real good food, made by real good people. ❤️??

WAAAAAAX… Oh mah gahd… I had not been to The Odditorium since before they added a kitchen, but I was there today and GOOD LORT, I ate some frickin’ tasty food! The Philly gets two thumbs up from me. The deep fried tamale is one of the greatest things I’ve ever ate in my my life. The chicken stick was bomb. The onion rings were perfect. The burgers were bangin’. Great fries. Plus it’s cool as shit over there! The decor and layout are dive-bar-meets curio museum, and the staff is super chill, friendly, and pro. From my point of view, it’s one of the most fun places in town! Chef Ben Hester and his kitchen are making some killer grub, and of course, it’s also a full bar, so y’all can get your drank on while you’re chowing down. I had a bubble tea. Super high recommends for this place all around! Don’t miss out.

ASHEVILLE BEAUTY ACADEMY

On Sunday I went to Asheville Beauty Academy for the drag show. I sat at the bar, saw my friends Charlie and Melissa, drank a lemonade, and gave all my money to the performers. Good times, Yo! Everyone was having fun, and I recommend it 100.

GOOMBAY FESTIVAL ASHEVILLE

Originally posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 9/06/2021

Dawn and I went to the 40th Goombay Asheville Festival on Saturday and I went back on Sunday. I gotta say, Goombay is the most bangin’ festival in Downtown, and it has a TON of food! I wish I could have tried every truck and table, but we did the best we could! We hit up the Blasian Seoul food truck and Island FT, and enjoyed both very much! If you missed Goombay this year, BE SURE to get there next year!

CHEF SQUARED / FETA FLAV

Originally posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 9/06/2021

I used some of Chef Baxevanis’ (Feta Flav, Chef Squared Co.) “Missed Steak” herbal blend and boy howdy, it came out great! I usually just go with plain ol’ salt ‘n’ pepper on my steaks, but I’m gonna switch it up with some of nice spice rubs and what not, now that I have so many. I cooked this one in butter for 8 mins and served it with taters, wedge salad, sour cream tzatziki, ranch and Duke’s Mayonnaise. Mmm-mmm-mmm! ?

VAPOR WORLD ASHEVILLE / BHUMI HERBALS

Originally posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 9/06/2021

I got these great delta-8 infused sweets in my sample pack from Vapor World Asheville, and I’m here to tell you, they tasted great, and made me feel real good… if you know what I mean? ? The quality of the chocolate, and real white chocolate from Bhumi Herbals, was excellent! The sheen was there, the aroma was there, the audible snap, the nice clean break, and of course the awesome flavor of high quality chocolate & white chocolate were all there. FYI – Real white chocolate is actually yellowish or ivory in color, because it’s made from real cocoa butter. Pure white white chocolate is usually made from confectionery sugar and some kind of food grade oil. I learned that on a food tour! ? That’s why most people think they hate white chocolate, but if you give them some real stuff, they gonna taste the gooood. Anyhoo, these THC treats were fuckin’ great, in all ways, and I highly recommend. ?

NORTH SPORE

Today I went on an early morning adventure. My friend Scott picked me up in his car, and we drove out to Candler, where we bought some pupusas, from a very nice person named Ruthie, who was selling them to raise money for Asheville en Español / BeLoved Asheville to provide some relief to those is the Latinx community who have been effected by the recent floods. We sat in her kitchen and ate them hot off the griddle, and then we took a ton home. Thanks, Scott, thanks Ruthie!

DOC BROWN’S BBQ

Originally posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 9/02/2021

Y’all. Sometimes I feel like the luckiest person on earth. This morning David “Doc” Brown from Doc Brown’s BBQ texted me to ask if he could come by my house to bring me something new and special from his menu! I said yes. He said ribs. Then this happened. These are Doc Brown’s Memphis dry rub ribs, prepared for me by the doctor himself. He started with his plain ribs, then rubbed vinegar all over them, then his house made dry rub, and then he cut them, and we both tucked in. Fuhhhhhhk, Y’all. AMAZING. The rub was truly tasty and delicious and the ribs were perfectly cooked, as is everything Doc Brown’s makes! These are on their menu and currently available! David is a great guy, who has a great crew, who make great food! Thanks, my friend! I appreciate you!

ROCKY’S HOT CHICKEN SHACK VIA KICKBACKAVL

Originally posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on  8/31/2021

The next stop on ?  My ? Epic ? Delivery ? Journey ? with Kickbackavl is a chicken… sorry, a “No Chick” sandwich from Rockys Hot Chicken Shack in West Asheville. It’s made out of Quorn, which is a meat substitute that I used to eat on a pretty regular basis when I was vegetarian, so no surprises for me that I liked this sandwich! I also got green beans and taters ‘n’ gravy, and I’m here to say, everything was delish!!! All of it. If you’re veg, or even if you’re not, I think you will enjoy the Quorn cutlet. I ordered mine spiced “hot” and it was hot! The flavor was on point. It filled me up. I was happy. I also love Rocky’s sides. Some of my faves in town. Thanks, Rocky’s and my Kickback driver, Leslie, for this excellent meal! ?
