Uh. It’s been a while since’t I posted to Ashvegas, sorry. Busy. Makin’ hot dogs at Clingman Cafe, dressing up like Banjo the Whistlepig, busting out graphic design for this and that client, eating, eating, always eating. I’ve got a lot of on my plate — in all senses of the expression — and I can already feel the clock ticking down to my imminent death. So many things to do… NOT ENOUGH TIME! Gah!!!
One of my fave new things to do is the AVL Food Fans podcast with Chef Joe Scully (from Corner Kitchen and Chestnut) which is hosted & produced by Zapow studios, and is available to listen to on line, and now from the iTunes store! Just search for “avl food fans.”
Joe and I recently recoded the sensational second episode, during which we rattle off all the places to eat in the River Arts District, with an opinion or two thrown in here and there, and then we have two special guests, Bobby Sullivan and Clare Schwartz from the French Broad Food Co-op. Bobby corrects my errors from the previous podcast, and they both talk about the Green Opportunities teaching kitchen down there on Livingston Street. I ate at the GO! kitchen a while back and had an excellent meal! It’s a wonderful program that seems to benefit many people. You can find out more by… Googling it.
Clare also informs me that their grocery manager, Ryan has stocked cheese popcorn in the FBFC snack isle after reading my FaceBook rant about the lack of it a while back. Ha ha! YES! Thank you, Ryan! The power of the complaint.
After our guests, Joe and I get romantic, and give our picks for the best places to go on a 1st date, a couples’ date night, and for a major anniversary. I suggest a place at which Dawn and I ate the number one meal we’ve had so far in 2015, and I tell Chef Joe that one of his suggestions is a “horrible idea.” Ha ha! I’m such a dick.

As always, Joe is highly entertaining, talking about everything from his experiences as a young chef at the Waldorf hotel in NYC, to the food his mom cooked when he was growing up as one of 9 kids, and of course, Joe is always making a “conversational gambit.” This time with a zucchini stick in his hand. Last time it was a hot dog.
