Skateboarding enthusiasts turned out in force last weekend for an art show/fundraising event at the PUSH skate shop gallery on Patton Avenue. It was organized by ceramic artist Alex Irvine, who’s also an avid skater.
The sculpture on display was actually the steel skeleton of a new concrete ramp that skaters plan to build at a grass-roots skate park in the River Arts District known as the Foundation Spot. Skaters have already built a few obstacles at the location, which was once the concrete slab warehouse floor. (The warehouse walls are gone, but the slab is intact.) Irvine said the goal is to raise $2,000 and have the concrete poured by the end of July.

This would be a fantastic use for what is obviously a very flood-prone area. I would love to see more recreational oriented infrastructure in the RAD.
Recreational structures invite more usage (get more people into the RAD) while also allowing for better mitigating the impact of flooding.
By the way….we should totally expect flooding in this area of the RAD – its flooded 3-4 times in the past 10 years…maybe more.
Whatever happened to the whitewater park idea?
Fight childhood obesity while reducing fossil fuel dependency, all while building something to share.
Sometimes good guys don’t wear white!

How does one donate?
Check out the art show at Push skate shop, downtown. That’s the main fundraiser location.
Ummm, is there a crowd-source funding campaign or something? A kickstarter or indiegogo link would be swell…
I’m pretty sure this is at that cluster of crumbling warehouse buildings on the curve of Lyman Road near Paneling World, and kind of behind the Riverview Station complex. Who owns that property, and is thereby going to be legally liable when the first skater busts their head open on this ramp?
